Floral headbands
This DIY was inspired by a tutorial I saw on youtube by MakeupbyMandy24. I thought it would be a good idea to replicate what she showed and explain you guys step by step how I did it. (Just letting that out as a little disclaimer. I know she didn't invent the idea, but she inspired this DIY)
Materials
I also used the back of a metallic poster I used to have up on the kitchen wall to prevent getting glue everywhere.
Steps to follow
Make sure not to cut it too short, I always prefer to have more than what I need just in case I make a mistake or who knows
2. Choose the flowers you're going to use.
I'm going to do this particular demonstration with daisies, although I have made two more headbands with different types, sized and coloured flowers.
Make sure you have enough to make your headband.
3. Start off by removing the green piece that holds the whole flower together, so that you can stick them easier.
This step is optional, of course. You can leave it if you want.
4. Now, cut the plastic that connects the centre of the flower and the petals to the stem.
This will make the sticking much easier and will help the flowers stay stuck longer
5. Now that you're done with that, plug in your glue gun, wait for it to be hot enough and start gluing.
Be extremely careful not to get burned (it hurts, trust me)
6. Once you put the glue on the elastic, it dries very quickly. So don't get distracted when gluing your flower or the glue would have dried and you'll have to do it again.
Press the flower on the glue until it's dry enough that it stays by itself, you don't have to wait until it's dried completely if you don't want to.
Keep doing this until you've gone all the way to the end of the elastic.
You can leave as much space as you want between the flowers (I left about an inch)
This is how the finished headband looks. I realised the spaces between the flowers looked a little empty so I got some smaller daisies to fill them up
These ones didn't have the green part, but they did have the plastic bit, so cut it out and you're ready to start sticking!
7. Stick them carefully in the centre of each gap, between one flower and the other.
8. Finally, put some glue on one end of the elastic.
9. Now stick both ends together carefully...
... and you're good to go!
You can also try different sizes, patterns, shapes, etc!
I've made a couple more using purple roses (this time only going half way across the elastic)
and bigger and more colorful flowers which, to be honest, I have no idea what type they are. This time I've also gone half way and I played with the colors creating a sort of color gradient (which by the way you can hardly see on camera)
Here are some pics of me modeling the headbands like it's my job (lol)
| I really like this one for the upcoming summer season. I'm really looking forward to wearing it |
| This one is just gorgeous! Although I recommend wearing it with really voluminous hair (eg.big waves or curls) as it is more flattering than wearing it with straight hair |
| I really like how this one reminds me of Lana del Rey *-*
I really hope you enjoyed this DIY and that it was helpful (or at least fun) :)
